Puppy Info/FAQ

Mei's head at 8 weeks

Thank you for considering a Dragonne Lowchen! Our puppies are family and we raise them as such. We hope you appreciate the work that we've put into these puppies and enjoy them for many, many years to come. This page includes most of what you need to know to bring home one of our lowchen puppies from pricing, what is included, our expectations of our homes, and what you can expect from purchasing a dog from us.

Pricing

Pricing:
We charge between $2500-$3500 for our litters depending on various cost factors for us. Please see the "upcoming" litters section for current prices.

Deposits:
We have elected to temporarily remove deposit requirements due to the new legislation in California. We ask that you respect commitments to the best of your ability - so that our puppies are able to snuggle with their new homes as soon as they are able. It can be quite challenging to place rare breed puppies when they are older.

We take payment plans through GoodDog, using Klarna.

What is included?

We take great pride in following an extensive puppy raising program, a blend of both Avidog and Puppy Culture. You can find more information about this on our "How we raise our puppies" page.

AKC Registration: All puppies will be pre-registered before leaving our home. Pet puppies will be placed on limited registration which allows them to participate in any sports except for conformation and they cannot be bred. Show/Breeding puppies will receive full registration.

Vaccinations/Deworming: Our dams receive a canine nomograph during pregnancy which allows us to properly time vaccinations of puppies. Puppies will receive all proper vaccinations from 6-10 weeks which will usually be 2 rounds, but will likely need either a titer or an additional vaccination after they go home. We will provide owners with the nomograph report. Puppies are dewormed regularly during their development.

Microchip: Puppies are microchipped with an AKC reunite chip.

Health Insurance: 30 days of health insurance

Go Home Bag: Your puppy pack includes a scented blanket, snuggle puppy, toy, treats, chews, leash, collar, and more. :)

Weekly Updates: (or more!) All homes will receive a google drive link in which I place weekly, or even daily, photos/videos. We only ask you do not fall in love with a specific puppy as what we see in photos is not always reflected in the dog's personality in person and "falling in love in photos" is not taken into consideration when we select your puppy. :)

Socialization: Puppies have extensive socialization experiences from their first weeks on earth. They are exposed to many sounds, sights, strange surfaces/flooring, dogs (at a distance), people, children, and much more. We follow a combination of Avidog and Puppy Culture.

Resource Guarding Prevention: Resource guarding is a common problem in small breed dogs so we work hard throughout their development to prevent this through puppy culture and avidog's resource guarding prevention protocols, which primarily utilizes trading. We ask that homes continue to ALWAYS trade for items until well past adolescence and you will earn your dog's trust for life.

Temperament Testing: At 7 weeks, puppies are temperament tested by an outside expert. This allows us additional information about our puppies in a novel environment with strange people. This is invaluable to help us during puppy selections. We evaluate structure at 8 and 10 weeks.

Potty Training: We follow Avidog's litterbox training protocols which utilizes a puppy's natural clean den instincts, starting at 3 weeks. Puppies learn to keep their home clean and utilize a potty area (we use a litterbox with newspaper pellets). We expose puppies to kennel training and going outside as well. Puppies will not be fully potty trained at 10 weeks, but they have learned how to "hold it" longer than normal puppies and be able to grasp the concepts of where to go much easier.

Basic Training: Puppies will be exposed to basic training such as mats and platforms, stand/freestack, retraint, sit, down, recall, walking on a leash. They will have learned some reinforcement markers such as yes!, get it, good and I will have built toy and food drives.

Lifetime Support: I will always be here for you and your family for any questions, concerns, sad or happy moments. They will ALWAYS have a home here to fall back to if its ever needed. Please keep us updated and send lots of photos! A lot of love and time goes into our puppies and we love to hear about and see them.

Advanced Puppy Training

We are always happy to keep puppies longer than 12 weeks for no additional cost and continue working on basic skills but we do offer more intensive and focused training opportunities if desired. For pre-approved homes, we offer more intensive training/socialization opportunities beyond our 10-12 week puppy raising program.

Puppies will be exposed safely to many additional socialization experiences daily and continue working on crate training, potty training, waiting at doors, leash training, grooming manners, reinforcement markers, and basic cues such as sit, down, stay, place, hand touch, mats/platforms. Puppies will likely attend group puppy classes if available and receive a full groom every week. For show homes we continue on free stacking, gaiting, and hand stacking. The cost is $500 a week after 12 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we choose our puppy? No, we spend many weeks carefully observing the temperament, drive, and needs of all our puppies. We also pair this with a 3rd party experienced evaluator at 7 weeks. We take pride in carefully selecting the right puppy for each home. If no puppy is currently suitable for your home your deposit will be refunded.

When do I know which puppy is mine? The selection process begins at 7 weeks, picks will not be made until 8-10 weeks. Occasionally, there will be need to hold onto a couple puppies until 12-14 weeks to see how a puppy develops conformationally/structurally - or ensure testicles stay down for show homes.

How do I pick up my puppy? Flight or In-Person Pickup. We are an hour from the Denver Airport and happy to meet outside security, puppies fly nicely right under the seat. You may pick up your puppy in person in Fort Collins at our home as well. We generally require meeting a new owner in person, however when circumstances prevent this (exporting to another country, health, etc) just let me know and we can work something out. We will not ship cargo outside an export circumstance and will not use larger scale pet transport services.

Can we choose their registered name? (a registered name is the name used for AKC and is longer than the name you use at home) Yes! We do have a list of themed names to choose from for every litter, but we understand registered names can be very personal - thus we are completely open to all names as long as they are approved by us. Puppies will be pre-registered prior to them leaving our homes and all must start with the kennel name "Dragonne's."

Can we purchase breeding rights? All puppies are priced the same. We will only sell breeding/show prospects to those who will fully health test to CHIC/breed club standards, title in conformation or higher level sports, and have built prior trust with us.

How often do you have puppies? We will never be a large scale breeder, likely only having 1-2 breeding age girls at any time. My dogs are my pets and I enjoy doing things with them individually, since I breed primarily for myself litters are few between. We will likely only have 1 litter every 1-2 years.

How big are lowchen litters? Lowchen have very small litters, generally around 1-4 puppies. Sometimes we've seen litters of 5 or 6 but they are very rare.
